Here is something about being kind to nature:

Do not pluck any flowers or leaves from plants. If you need any for research, pick them up from the ground. Do not deliberately trample all over the grass as well, when it is unnecessary.

I did some research and found an experiment:

A group of scientists once connected a tree to a machine that would measure chemical changes in plants to show 'emotions'. There would be up and down markings, like a scanner for heart-beat, to monitor those changes. The ups and downs were constant at first. However, when a scientist plucked a leaf off the tree, the marking suddenly shot up. It was the equivalent of a human screaming in agony.

Respect nature.

Th13rteen, I am so glad everyone was very enthusiastic about recycling during Sports Fest. All around were bottles and cans being passed upwards towards the recycling bags. I just hope they really got there, but I trust that they did. :) Anyway, keep up the spirit!

One thing we can do for the environment is to save plastic bags. I realised that some stall owners dish out plastic bags with too much generousity. For example, Breadtalk gives its customers a small plastic bag within a huge one just to contain a small piece of bread. In such situations, you can choose not to take the plastic bag, and advise the cashier/vendor not to give too many plastic bags to a customer with a small purchase. Not only is this more cost-effective for the stall, it will also be more environmentally friendly. Besides, it also saves you the trouble of searching for a bin to throw the excessive plastic bags into.

We can also reuse plastic bags. If we bring along our own used plastic bags when we go to shops, it will save up on the new plastic bags the people at the shops will have to give out. We can bring our own plastic bags when we have to pack food from the canteen for third language and so on. :)

Congratulations for doing so well in the plate tectonics presentation, Chin Hwee, Rachel, Melissa, Hui Rong, Charlotte, Athena and Michelle. However, do not forget to recycle the stack of paper with keywords written on them. It is a very big stack indeed. Do not let them go to waste. Reuse them as rough paper, and when they simply cannot be reused anymore, drop them in the paper recycling bin along the corridor.

Thanks!
